Leaked documents now show what we all suspected: the NSA can turn your iPhone's microphone and camera on and off without you knowing.

According to Der Spiegel's website:

"The NSA's ANT division develops implants for mobile phones and SIM cards. One of these is a spyware implant called "DROPOUTJEEP" — designed for the first generation of iPhones — which was still in development in 2008, shortly after the iPhone's launch. This spyware was to make it possible to remotely download or upload files to a mobile phone. It would also, according to the catalog, allow the NSA to divert text messages, browse the user's address book, intercept voicemails, activate the phone's microphone and camera at will, determine the current cell site and the user's current location, "etc." ANT's technicians also develop modified mobile phones, for use in special cases that look like normal, standard devices, but transmit various pieces of information to the NSA — that can be swapped undetected with a target's own mobile phone or passed to informants and agents. In 2008, ANT had models from Eastcom and Samsung on offer, and it has likely developed additional models since."

Activists arrested for ‘bioterrorism hoax’ for using glitter on a protest banner

According to the magazine, Stefan Warner and Moriah Stephenson, both members of an environmental organization called Great Plains Tar Sands Resistance, were part of a larger group of about 12 activists demonstrating at Devon Tower, HQ of Devon Energy, one of the largest U.S.-based independent natural gas and oil producers.

'The substance was later determined to be glitter'

The protestors were opposing the company's use of fracking and its role in the mining of Canada's tar sands, as well as the firm's ties to TransCanada, the energy company planning the Keystone XL pipeline. As reported by Mother Jones, "As other activists blocked the building's revolving door, Warner and Stephenson hung two banners – one a cranberry-colored sheet emblazoned with The Hunger Games 'mockingjay' symbol and the words 'The odds are never in our favor' in gold letters – from the second floor of the Devon Tower's atrium."

Soon after, responding police arrested Warner and Stephenson, as well as two other protestors. The latter two activists were charged with trespassing, but Warner and Stephenson were nailed with additional charges – staging a phony bioterrorist attack, a charge that, if convicted, carries a prison term of 10 years in Oklahoma.

DNC sends email defending Obama from impeachment possibility

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) sent out a paranoid email Saturday evening urging supporters to vote for Democrats so that Republicans can't impeach President Obama.

The email, subject line "Impeachment," was sent to Obama for America supporters, imploring them to contribute to the DNC's 2014 efforts. "What do these people all have in common?," the email asked, featuring quotes from Republican Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, Rep. Kerry Bentivolio of Michigan, and Rep. Blake Farenthold of Texas discussing the possibility of impeaching Obama for one of his numerous instances of presidential misconduct.

Man Claims Harassment From Telemarketers After Signing Up For Obamacare

A man claims he was bombarded with telemarketing calls immediately after signing up at healthcare.gov, prompting accusations that Obamacare enrollees are having their private information sold to companies or that the website has been compromised by hackers.

"My phone is virtually silent most of the time. I do not play any face book games or do any online surveys," the man wrote. "The only thing I did in the past 3 days on the internet between then and now, is sign up for Obamacare."

More Misleading Official Employment Statistics

            

The payroll jobs report for November from the Bureau of Labor Statistics says that the US economy created 203,000 jobs in November. As it takes about 130,000 new jobs each month to keep up with population growth, if the payroll report is correct, then most of the new jobs would have been used up keeping the unemployment rate constant for the growth in the population of working age persons, and about 70,000 of the jobs would have slightly reduced the rate of unemployment. Yet, the unemployment rate (U3) fell from 7.3 to 7.0, which is too much for the job gain.
